Through The Seasons
"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever." - Isaiah 40:8. Discover how this timeless truth guides us through the seasons.
At Greater Bethel Baptist Church, we are a vibrant community of faith, deeply rooted in the rich history of San Marcos. Our origins can be traced back to the First Baptist Church, which was the original Baptist congregation in the area. In 1871, the church split into two congregations, New Zion Baptist Church and our own, which was first established as Second Baptist Church.
The congregation later adopted the name Greater Bethel Baptist Church, reflecting our growing faith and commitment to the community. For over 143 years, Greater Bethel has been a steadfast presence in San Marcos, serving as a beacon of hope, encouragement, and spiritual growth. Throughout the decades, the church has been a place where individuals and families have gathered to worship, pray, and support one another, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.
Under the dedicated leadership of Pastor Derrick Benn, Greater Bethel continues to thrive as a Christ-centered congregation. Our ministries encompass a wide range of activities, including Sunday services, Bible studies, youth programs, and community outreach initiatives. We are committed to breaking the darkness of hopelessness and despair, striving to be a light in the community.
Whether you're seeking a place to worship, grow in your faith, or connect with others, Greater Bethel Baptist Church welcomes you with open arms. Join us as we honor our past, embrace the present, and build a future filled with hope and love.
The vision and mission of Greater Bethel Baptist Church is to be:
- A House of Prayer,
- A House of Worship,
- A church that is serious about meeting needs,
- A church that develops fellowship into real relationships,
- A church that is serious about telling the good news (evangelism).
